French Entertaining - I think it's time for an aperitif!
Have you ever heard about the French apéritif or "prendre l'apéro"?
It's the time of the year, when the weather is getting warmer, the days are longer, the sun is shining, people are in a good mood and it's time to get out and about and start entertaining.
In France, it's almost a ritual if you are invited to a dinner or a lunch, the first thing you do is have an aperitif with your friends; it could be a Pastis, a glass of wine, a beer, a cocktail, or a fruit juice, served with light snacks such as olives, nuts, cheese & bread. The traditional aperitif drink is "Pastis" from Marseille, an aniseed drink, diluted with water and served chilled.
L'apéritif represents a time to relax, catch up and laugh before enjoying your meal together, it's a very social affair. The only condition to the aperitif is to first toast "santé" (health), then drink! On some occasions, people don't even stay for dinner, they just pop-in unannounced, for a quick drink and catch up.
So, here is how you can surprise your guests by serving an aperitif with a glass of white wine or bubbly and this divine combination of our award winning Red Onion Jam and Saint Agur blue cheese". The caramelised red onions, shiraz, port and peppercorns are a mouthwatering combination with many cheese.
